Looking for ways to instantly boost your mood? Hashtag same. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had it up to HERE with all the negativity that 2020-2021 has been about. It’s been rough lately, guys. On my mental health, on my mood, on my outlook. And I know if I’m struggling then I’m willing to bet that there are a lot of you feeling the same way. Enough is enough: I’m choosing to be happy.
Here’s what I do know: some things are out of our control. And if we spend too much time dwelling on those things we can’t control, we will end up going down the rabbit hole of miserability (made that word up), until we’re so far down we can’t climb out. Instead: we CAN control our reactions; the way we deal with situations, and the way we continue to move onward and upward through even the toughest of circumstances. So.. with that being said, I’m choosing to be happy this week, and hopefully every week from here on out.
3 Ways to Instantly Boost Your Mood

A friend of mine recently gave me some pretty good advice: she told me that we have to choose our happiness. Each and every day, we are only as happy as we choose to be. And that makes sense, ya know? We can’t rely on other people to make us happy. At the end of the day, our happiness is up to us. So.. here are three ways I’m choosing my happiness this week.

Celebrate Movement
Exercise should be something we enjoy. I used to treat exercise as a punishment for my eating habits. I’ve since learned to treat exercise as a celebration of how my body can move, and the things it’s capable of doing. This week, I’m going to commit to exercising in a way that is enjoyable, in a way that feels good and brings me joy, and in a way that will benefit my body.
This could mean I spend time lifting weights, going for a walk, or even just practicing yoga and meditation. There are no rules when it comes to exercise when you treat it this way, only that you enjoy the process.
Less Social Media
It’s hard to cut social media out of my life completely when so much of what I do is through the internet and interacting with people. But, that doesn’t mean the mindless scrolling has to take over my life, my time, my mind, or interfere with quality time I could be spending with my family.
This week, I’m choosing to be happy and going to commit to spending less time on my phone or laptop, setting designated work hours and “clocking out” for the day, and more time out of pocket.
Practice Gratitude
Practicing gratitude is actually something that can give us more energy, did you know that? When we start our days off with a grateful heart, and acknowledge some of the things we are thankful for, it can actually set the tone for our entire day and how our mood will be for the day.
This week, instead of complaining about the laundry piling up, or the dishes in the sink, or the fact that our dog sheds more than what seems possible – I’m going to practice gratitude. I’m going to recognize and acknowledge the blessings in my life, and stop sweating the small stuff.
Practicing gratitude goes hand in hand with positive thinking, and when we’re able to change our perception, it’s amazing how our entire mood can shift.
What are some ways that you’re going to choose happiness this week? I’d love to hear the small and big things in your life that bring you joy, and how you’re going to focus on them more this week!
