Remember in my last post when I shocked you all with my age? Because I look so much younger… Remember?
Ha. Well in all honesty, I didn’t start having an actual facial routine until about a year ago.
I was always changing facial cleansers and was never very wowed with any of the results.
Don’t get me wrong; I would religiously wash my face every morning and every evening, but that was just a way of getting the day’s makeup off.
And then one day the realization hit that I’m getting older. Meaning I should be worried about wrinkles, and sun spots, and aging in general.
So I started trying grown-up products that actually are supposed to be good for your skin.
A friend of mine talked me into trying Rodan + Fields. I’m going to 1000% honest with you that I was completely skeptical. I might have rolled my eyes. (I can’t remember but that sounds like something I would do).
I honestly didn’t believe it worked, and I didn’t want to give it a try.
But then I did. I started using the Redefine system last summer, and within about 4-6 weeks I had people commenting on my skin.
(For some reason that I haven’t quite figured out, I kind of stopped wearing makeup last summer on the regular. Meaning – on my normal day-to-day you’ll find me bare-skinned, and I only wear makeup if we have “big plans”).
I had about ten people compliment my skin within a one week time-frame.
I was like… what is going on?!
Even my husband told me that my skin looked really healthy.
(Please note, I never asked anyone how my skin looked. All of the compliments and comments were given to me randomly).
The only thing I had changed was implementing a new cleansing program, and stopped wearing as much makeup.
I have not turned back. I continue to use this system and I have noticed my skin is healthier, I experience fewer breakouts, and I’d even go as far as saying maybe it’s a little younger looking. (I’ve even been told it’s glowing).
So, fast forward to about a month ago. Maggie, another friend of mine who I’ve known since we were babies, who happens to also be a consultant, reached out to me about the Active Hydration Serum and incorporating it into my daily routine.
Again I was skeptical. The one problem I continue to have with my skin is… I don’t even know the name for it. I have combination skin, but in my opinion, it’s horribly combined.
I am always dry, and I am always oily. There is never any in between. It’s always a combination of both but to the maxes.
I have tried every moisturizer known to man and they all do the same thing: break me out while simultaneously keeping my skin dry.
Nothing ever actually helps soothe my dry skin and keep it that way.
But nevertheless, I decided to give it a try.
So What is this Active Hydration Serum?
Rodan + Field’s Active Hydration Serum is an oil free moisturizing serum that contains Hyaluronic Acid and 30% Glycerin to help fight against dry skin; keeping skin looking radiant, softer, and smoother (and younger!)
You can read all about the science behind these ingredients and why they’re proven effective if you visit the R+F site, but the short of it is AHS increases your skin’s hydration level by 200% and keeps it refreshed and moisturized for up to eight hours after application.
How to Use
The Active Hydration Serum can be incorporated into any facial cleansing routine (meaning you don’t have to be using all R+F products to reap the benefits of this product).
I just so happen to already be using Redefine.
- Cleanse your face as your normally would with whatever product you typically use (for me, it’s Redefine Step 1)
- Apply Toner (Redefine Step 2)
- Apply Active Hydration Serum. I quickly found out after my first application that I used TOO MUCH. My skin was super sticky afterwards. I reached out to Maggie and she told me she only uses about 1/4 of the dropper. Whoops. I used an entire dropper length. So.. let it be noted, you probably do not need that much.
- Apply eye cream and/or any other creams you might use (but not any moisturizers). For me, this is my R+F Anti-Age Multi-Function Eye Cream, and my Redefine Step 3 AM or PM cream.

I use the Active Rehydration System only at night.
In the morning, cleanse your face as you normally would. You can apply the serum again if you feel it’s needed, or, if your skin isn’t overly dry, I would go without (I’ve been using the product only at night since we’re going into warmer weather, but I could totally see using this twice a day in the winter months or if you live in really dry climates).
The results?
Aside from the first night where I felt really sticky (seriously guys, I just used too much product), I’ve noticed a difference right away.
My face is smoother, soft to the touch, and it’s not oily. I also haven’t experienced any breakouts.
Because it only takes a small amount to do the trick, the other really great thing about this product is that it should last about 2-4 months (again, that will vary depending on if you’re using it once or twice per day).
So here’s the really exciting stuff!
