What is personal development when it comes to the workplace, your business, blog, or career? It’s where you, as the employee, entrepreneur, or business owner, are making a conscious and continual effort to improve your skills and abilities.
Personal development is especially important if you are running your own business or trying to build your own blogging business.
It helps you stay motivated and excited about what you’re doing, but also gives you the knowledge and skills to be able to empower your team (or future team!) and move your business in a new direction while also keeping up with the trends.

Adopt a Reading Habit
Whether you decide to join a professional book club or set a reading goal independently this year, get into the habit of reading something every day. Even if it’s just a paragraph or a page, make that commitment to yourself and see it through.
Find personal development and business books that appeal to you, but challenge yourself to also think outside your niche.
Don’t just look for topics that relate specifically to your business or blogging niche; but strive to find other personal development books by authors with different viewpoints or passions.
Doing so will broaden your perspective and help you think outside the box you’re used to being in. When we can learn from other companies, thinkers, and opinions, we can start to see things in more big-picture terms.

Learn New Things Everyday
Try something new in your business! Maybe you’ve stayed away from creating Instagram Reels or TikTok videos because you’re not sure how to make them work. Give them a try.
Great things await you outside your comfort zone, and you just may end up finding something you enjoy or that you’re good at.
Don’t expect to do things perfectly or pick up on a brand new concept immediately. Give yourself grace as you’re learning and enjoy the process. It’s okay to mess up and it’s okay to be silly. Your audience will appreciate your authenticity.
Use Your Time Wisely
Take an honest look at your day to day schedule and identify if it serves you, or leaves you feeling overwhelmed, disorganized, and in a constant state of stress.
Start prioritizing your day with realistic expectations, and come up with an action plan for the things on your to-do list.
This also involves finding the balance between your work life and home life. This is especially important if you’re running a business or blogging from home. Set aside specific working hours each day, and identify a stopping point where you can “go home” at the end of your working day and not look at emails or other items again until the next morning.
This even means setting down your phone and learning to walk away from social media. Yes, engagement is important. But so is your peace and honoring your “me time.”
Join Online Communities and Social Networking
Find a community of other entrepreneurs and get active. This can be a monthly dinner for local women in business, or blog/business-growth focused Facebook groups.
Either way, surrounding yourself with other people who have similar goals or aspirations can help be a great way to network, find collaboration opportunities, friendships, and even learn a thing or two.
Seek Out Areas for Personal Development
One of the most important things to consider when you’re setting personal development goals for work or your blog is to identify your weaknesses.
We’re all good at sharing our strengths, right? But when was the last time you sat down and evaluated your weaknesses? Identify areas you feel you could improve in (maybe it’s making those TikTok videos or Instagram reels!) and look for opportunities to practice, improve, and grow.
If there’s an area of your business or blog you’re not understanding, seek out opportunities to help you learn.
One of the best things I did for my sites was investing in a good SEO course, like Stupid Simple SEO.
As a blogger and someone who is passionate about personal development, I completely agree with the importance of making reading a daily habit. Whether you’re reading for pleasure or to learn something new, there’s no denying the benefits of incorporating reading into your daily routine.
I appreciate the suggestion to challenge yourself to read outside of your niche.
