It’s October first! I know fall officially started a couple weeks ago, but it never really seems like it’s here until October rolls around.
October may just be my absolute favorite month; the leaves start to change color, pumpkin patches officially open, chili on the stove and football on the TV, plus, at the end of the month, perfectly nice strangers give you Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I mean.. what more could you ask for?!
And, what makes it even more incredible, is that along with this gorgeous month, we ended September and started October with International Coffee Day. As if I needed a reason or excuse to drink it.. but yes.. I do plan on celebrating. Every day this week, in fact.
But guys.. let me let you in on a little secret. Chad cannot stand coffee. Like, literally HATES it. Can’t stand the smell, let alone the taste. In the almost ten years that we’ve been together, I bet I’ve physically made coffee in our house less than ten times. Because I hate hearing him gag and complain every time he walks into the kitchen. (Sorry, honey).
But for me? Coffee is definitely my drug of choice. And since today is a day dedicated to celebrating these magic little beans, I wanted to share one of my latest discoveries and newest favorite protein-coffee recipes.
If you’re on Instagram, you need to do yourself a favor and follow @themacrobarista. His name is Alex and he lifts weights and works at Starbucks, and has dedicated his entire IG account to making macro-friendly versions of so many Starbucks drinks and then providing us all with the deets on how to order them. He’s pretty amazing.
One of my more recent obsessions is his version of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. I even take it a step further and blend it with Cinnamon Bun flavored protein powder from True Nutrition. It’s AMAZING. I’m sure you could probably take your protein with you to Starbucks and kindly ask them to blend, but I just do it myself at home after I go to my nearest Starbucks.
So here’s how you order:
- Ask for a tall Blonde Americano in a Grande cup
- One pump of pumpkin sauce
- 3 pumps of sugar free vanilla
- Steamed almond milk
- Ask for extra pumpkin spice topping
Approximate macros: Protein 1.5g, Carbs 14g, Fat 3g Cals 90 (without whip)
I then take it home and poor it in my blender along with one scoop of my Cinnamon Bun flavored egg white protein blend from True Nutrition. Blend for a few seconds until frothy. Pour it back into your cup and enjoy.
This adds:
Protein 24g, Carbs 2g, Fat 0g, Cals 110
For a total of:
Protein 25.5g, Carbs 16g, Fat 3g, Cals 200
Pure coffee deliciousness mixed with protein. Ah-mazing.
