“I know you don’t know me but please, please, please you have to help me
….Please help me. I didn’t kill anyone.”
Ruth Ware has done it again. Creepy, suspenseful, and the true definition of a page turner, The Turn of The Key will have you sleeping with your lights on for at least one night once you’ve finished Ware’s latest novel. (I might know from experience. I’ll never tell).
Rowan Caine is an uninspired twenty-something who stumbles upon an ad for a live-in nanny. Complete with a ridiculously large pay grade and live in accommodations, she’ll do anything in her power to get this job.
But what she doesn’t realize, is that Heatherbrae House, while luxurious from the outside, is home to multiple dark secrets. So many, in fact, that the Elincourt family has gone through four nannies all within the time frame of a year.
Rowan is sure that she is stronger than the ones who came before her, and turns a blind eye to the rumors that stir regarding the circumstances surrounding Heatherbrae House. Never in her wildest dreams imagining she would come face to face with more than one dark secret that lurks behind closed doors.
When a child is found dead, Rowan is convicted, despite her desperate pleas that she is innocent.
Is she? Read the book to find out for yourself. (And again.. keep an extra light on when you do!)
I gave The Turn of the Key 4 stars on Goodreads! I can honestly say this is one ending I never saw coming, which disappoints my sleuthing skills greatly.
