I know we’re safe at home, but I still can’t pretend that I’m not going just the teeniest, tiniest bit stir-crazy over here. I love my family, and I have many blessings to be thankful for. But sometimes I just need to take a deep breath and reset. This whole – work from home (if you’re lucky enough to still be working), full-time cook, full-time maid, full-time teacher, full-time snack preparer (dear LORD how many snacks can one child eat in a day? Answer: the limit doesn’t exist), full-time child entertainer/keep you occupied all damn day long, full-time dreamer act can really wear on a person.
So this week I thought, okay. We’ve had enough school for the day. Let’s get outside and breathe in the fresh air, soak up that vitamin D since the sun is finally gracing us with its presence, and DO SOMETHING. The Funderburks have adopted a new nightly after-dinner walk routine, and now that it’s getting slightly warmer we’ve been pulling out the bikes for a midday ride. But there’s only so many times you can circle the same neighborhoods before that starts to feel a little redundant, too.
To shake things up a bit and REALLY get crazy (ha), I put together an outdoor scavenger hunt for Coop. We hopped on our bikes and rode a little over 8 miles throughout our neighborhoods looking for items to check off our list. While our list included things like: litter, lost socks, and portapotties..(hey, gotta know your area), I cleaned it up a bit for everyone else.
If you’re looking for something mildly entertaining to keep the littles happy, or just needing more ideas of things to do in quarantine with family, you can save this scavenger list to your phone/device, or print it and take with you next time you go on a walk or bike ride.
I know this is a really weird time, but if you’re able to get out of the house safely, while still social distancing and remaining at least 6 feet away from other people, I would encourage you to do so. Go for a walk, a run, bike ride, or just sit outside in the sunshine. The fresh air will do you some good, I promise.
